September 2018 Favorites
It’s been a while since I’ve done a favorites post, but this might just be my best one yet! It’s a long one, so grab your coffee or if it’s 5 o’clock pour yourself a glass of wine and let’s get to it!
Fashion/Beauty
LOFT Dolman Speckled Sweater I swear this sweater was made for me. It’s so soft and the speckles add such a cute touch on a classic cream colored sweater. Also because of the colored specks you can pair this with some colorful pair of pants to get out of the rut of just wearing jeans or black work pants.
LOFT Brushed Sateen Leggings These leggings are the the Wunder Unders of work wear. They’re extremely soft and have added stretch for when you eat one too many cider donuts this fall. They also come in various colors. I ordered myself a pair in everest green and plum.
LOFT Striped Wrap Blouse Everyone has been talking about wrap shirts and dresses this season. Now I understand what all the hype was about. They’re extremely flattering! I love the nude and white stripes on this classic wrap blouse. This shirt is great for transitioning into fall because you can wear it alone or pair it with this cardigan for added warmth.
Kuhl Nova Wrap I got this sweater at REI on sale and I couldn’t resist. It’s so soft and perfect for throwing over a t-shirt to take Kobe out on a walk or over a blouse for braving the chilly office environment.
Patagonia Re-Tool Snap-T Fleece Pullover This pullover fleece was on super sale at REI. I told myself I didn’t need another patagonia fleece, but when I put this on I fell in love with the feel and fit. I also just loved the idea of the pocket for carrying my keys and phone when walking around town.
Liverpool Sienna Pull-On Black Denim Leggings I actually have Stitch Fix to thank for these babies. I always thought denim leggings were kind of tacky, especially when they’re pull-ons. Liverpool proved me wrong with the Sienna pull-on black denim leggings. They’re stretchy for the days you don’t actually want to wear jeans, but still have that “real” denim look for when you want to look more put together. These dress down or up really well.

Dark chocolate almonds Not sure why, but I’ve been craving chocolate a lot this month. Especially dark chocolate. In order to curb the craving I usually gravitate towards dark chocolate covered pretzels. Then I found dark chocolate covered almonds and haven’t looked back haha.
Cajun Cauliflower You can do so much with cauliflower it’s crazy! Cauliflower pizza crust, cauliflower rice, mashed cauliflower, you get the point. Anyways I’m not that fancy, but this recipe is a flavor bomb and it’s easy. I use this recipe for the cauliflower and then put it over brown rice with tahini sauce.

Shroomami Bowl I swear I made this almost every week in the month of September. It’s packed with super foods and plant based fiber. I first discovered this at Sweet Green, but it wasn’t possible to go there everyday for lunch during the work week. So, I decided to try and make it myself. I buy the dressing premade and the kale prepped. This makes it a little less time consuming to prepare. Here’s the recipe by Goop!

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi I felt like I was in a rut with reading. After starting work it’s been hard to find time to sit down and read a book, but then one of my co-workers mentioned Audible. This was the first book I tried on Audible and I loved it. I listened to it on my flight from Philadelphia to Kansas City and back. It’s about a young neurosurgeon who finds out he has cancer. It goes through his transition from surgeon to patient and the struggle between life and death. It’s a really interesting look on the acceptance of death and preserving our legacies. You can learn more about the book, Paul, and his wife Lucy here.
Rock Climbing I went rock climbing for the first time in August with some of the girls from work and instantly I was addicted. Since then I’ve bought my own equipment and a membership to my local rock gym. I’ve been going about 2-3 times a week and I love it. It’s a great workout without it feeling like a workout. I really like the challenge of figuring out and completing the routes. Maybe one day I’ll even take it outside to climb some real rocks haha.

Sweat App When I’m not at the rock gym, I’m using this app. Kayla Itsine is known for her Bikini Body Guide (BBG) workout and this is her app that incorporates three different programs: BBG, BBG Stronger, and Mind and Body. I am currently on Week 4 of BBG 1.0 and the workouts are VERY hard, but I definitely feel results. I would recommend this app if you’re a beginner to working out and don’t really know what to do at the gym (like me).
Screen Time on iPhone Ok, so I kind of hated this new feature of the iOS update until I started checking it. If you’re unsure what it is, the new iOS update for the iPhone includes a screen time widget that gives you stats on how much time you’re spending on your phones and on what apps. There was a lot of controversy over this with Stanford’s Computer Science Department and I think that’s where this idea was stemmed from. Check out this article that covers the Stanford students that protested Apple.
Congrats you made it to the end of my September favorites! Let me know in the comments what you’ve been loving 🙂
